City of Spies

Who can you trust when no one is who they claim to be?

1943. SOE agent Elisabeth de Mornay's cover is blown and she must flee Paris. Making her way to neutral Portugal, she receives a new identity and mission: to break a German espionage ring targeting Allied shipping before more men die.

Lisbon: The real-life inspiration behind City of Spies

As the only European capital that was both neutral and a port city, during WW2 Lisbon was a centre for intrigue, with exiled aristocrats, diplomats, businessmen, artists, smugglers, refugees and, of course, spies, all obsessively watching (and often plotting against) each other, under the watchful eye of António de Oliveira Salazar and his state police, the PVDE.

While the Portuguese population mostly favoured the Allies, Salazar and his administration leaned towards the Axis, turning a blind eye on the German espionage rings operating out of Lisbon's port, and their smuggling of wolfram/tungsten.

Lisbon was the perfect backdrop for City of Spies.

Resistance

Who can you trust when you're behind enemy lines?

With Allied invasion imminent, Cécile and her team are sent into France to destabilise Nazi operations. With in-fighting within the Resistance and their lives on the line, they must make decisions that could cost them everything.

Because not all their enemies are German.

The Jeds: The real-life inspiration behind Resistance

In May 1943 SOE and their American counterparts the OSS came up with the idea of Operation Jedburgh - the formation of special forces units formed of American, British and French volunteers who parachuted behind enemy lines in 3-man teams to assist with the liberation of France in 1944.

In 1943/44, there were no female Jed teams, but ... what if there were?
