I've written as far back as I can remember - mostly short stories for myself and friends (and mostly rubbish, if I'm being honest), but when I found myself captivated by BBC WW2 documentary, I followed one "what if..." after another until my first book emerged.
City of Spies was a labour of love. I loved exploring the role of my (fictitious) agent, and loved learning about the role Portugal played in the war.
By the end of City of Spies, it was was clear to me that Cécile was demanding another mission. So I decided to parachute her into Normandy ahead of the landings to see what would happen. Resistance happened, and I love the result.
While my characters and novels are fiction, they are based, as much as possible, on what was really happening at the time.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoy writing about them!
